At Carver Elementary, Kate Ladd has inspired her 3rd grade students with two significant STEAM units: “Designing Maglev Systems” and “A Slick Solution: Cleaning an Oil Spill”.  Beginning each study with a topical fiction picture book, students are first engaged by a story involving a child their age who needs to help solve a local transportation or environmental problem.  Most importantly, students’ awareness is focused on the possibility of pursuing STEAM-related  careers.
