Carver transportation engineers demonstrate the maglev vehicle sliding through the box without touching the track.

Carver environmental engineers demonstrate how to remove the oil from the river and the shore.

At Carver Elementary, Kate Ladd has inspired her 3rd grade students with two significant STEAM units: “Designing Maglev Systems” and “A Slick Solution: Cleaning an Oil Spill”.  Beginning each study with a topical fiction picture book, students are first engaged by a story involving a child their age who needs to help solve a local transportation or environmental problem.  Most importantly, students’ awareness is focused on the possibility of pursuing STEAM-related  careers.
